a web project exploring the impact of Afro Latin culture on the Asian diaspora in the Americas

The image, the imagined and the imaginary--these are all terms which direct us to something critical and new in global cultural processes; the imagination as a social practice".

It has been argued that in principle, virtual environments are race and gender blind. I prefer to think of the Web as a space in which we can reinvent ourselves. The Web can help us reconstruct, rather than completely erase old ways of looking at these critical markers of identity. Like other forms of cultural work, the Web can also be instrumental in building a sense of community, and a sense of belonging, where none may have previously existed. Much of the excitement about the Internet and virtual reality is generated by a sense of what it will become, rather than what it currently is. This sense of becoming, what is imagined, is what interests me.
