"I Am Wampanoag" (8:45) is an answer to the questions, "What is a Wampanoag? and Why don't you look like an Indian?" Little is actually discussed or taught about the eastern native people in most schools on the east coast, hence most people are ignorant to the names of the nations and bands that occupied this land previous to the Dutch, English and Italian explorers and settlers. this essay is a montage of footage from a social and a tribal council election in 2002, where I passed the camera to a couple of other folks and let them capture footage of the events.
"New World Griot Tales" (10:25) are two examples of my storytelling performance. Nothing much more to say about them. "Medicine Clown Poem #4" was written one night at the Nuyorican Poet's Cafe in July of 2000, on a night when they had 32 features and I was number 28. I wrote it at the bar and dedicated it to at least 25 of the poets who went ahead of me. DEF POETRY JAM is afraid to touch it. "Dionysus" is a memory from college, and my problems with liberal women with Mandingo fantasies.
